If modeling requires talent, why is it so based on physical appearance?

Isn't true talent based on something intangible and something that comes from INSIDE and NOT based on what's on the outside?

"why is it so based on physical appearance?"

VERY COMMON misconception.  If you have a good or unique structure and look like hell you may be able to model!

Because that "talent" is based on physical appearance.

It's kind of like you have to be at least somewhat tall to be a professional basketball player, but being tall isn't enough. You also have to be able to play basketball exceptionally well.

Yes, modeling is about physical appearance. But having the right physical appearance isn't enough. You also have to be good at modeling.

The only talent needed to be a model is to be stick thin and be able to walk in a straight line down a catwalk.

Some have a talent in how they deport themselves..present themselves

and it can be developed in most people, as we`re naturally rhythmic in movement

and graceful . .until we try too hard, that is.Then we need unlearn and learn to regain our stature.

Modelling requires talent? That's the first time I've heard of that!
