Can neurotransmitters carry a nerve impulse along a neurone?

Please tell me your reasoning so I can understand

    No.  Nerve impulses move alone a neuron via a wave of depolarization.  It's an ion channel thing.

    reasoning? this cannot be deduced by reasoning, only by careful experimentation and examination.
