What should I do?

My dog just found a big stick. Like 3× his size. He's walking around with it outside in his mouth. It's too big. Should I take it from him.

Oh, no. Don't take it away. He is showing off by carrying it. I have had a lot of dogs that love sticks or anything to have what I call a 'Got', the dog is the 'Getter after a Got'. Head held high, kinda prancing, showing off what she/he got.

Clap your hands & praise him, 'aww, look what gotter got, gotter got his got', I know it sounds stupid but lots of dogs have loved it.

Your dog is proud of what is in his mouth. Showing it off.

Yes. I always take sticks from me Basset Hound puppy. Then punish him with crate time.

If you think this is problematic, go get a yummy treat and TRADE IT for the stick.  Once you have the stick - DISPOSE of it, permanently.

If he is able to carry it around, it is obviously not too big for him.

It's too big for what?  Apparently he's able to carry it.  No, don't get off your a$$ and safeguard him.  Stay in the house and see what happens next.
