More true than false, but there are many other things coming against true Christians as well.

False. Evangelical Christianity would be the worst thing.

Catholicism didn't "happen" to Christianity. It IS complete and true Christianity, and was the only Christianity for ten centuries after Jesus founded it. All other "Christian" denominations have defected from His Church, abandoning the fullness of truth that Jesus promised to the Church He founded. Which is why they have fragmented into thousands of conflicting denominations, the teaching of each one contradicting the teaching of the others, in just a few hundred years, while the one Church Jesus founded, the Holy Catholic Church, remains one in belief, one in teaching, one in worship, one in biblical understanding throughout the world after 2,000 years. You just can't beat God's plan.

The Catholic World Report--http://www.catholicworldreport.com/Item/1539/both_lungs.aspx  --According to CWR there was no Catholic Church before the Schism, which took place due to "the gradual, tragic result of linguistic, liturgical, disciplinary, theological, and cultural differences."

Without the Catholic Church keeping Christianity alive in the West, there'd be no Protestants.  There would, however, be Christianity thanks to the Eastern Church.

Oh, and by the way:  reported.

Without the RCC would there be any Christianity as it is today?

A small sect of jewish zealots with a Jesus for a Rabbi wasn't going to do it.

Well, nothing compares to the TWO BILLION PLUS dollars that the Catholic church has paid out in settlements to victims of pedophile priests.

Catholicism was a major force in spreading Christianity.  However that isn't necessarily a good thing.  Catholicism has been a disaster for humanity and we're only starting to recover now.  There's still many priests that need to be brought up on charges of child abuse.
