To pre-heat an oven faster, can you pre-heat on convection, then turn it to conventional{normal} when baking?

    it doesn't make a difference how you preheat it, it will still take time.

    THATS why baking recipes usually start with "turn on the oven to ___ degrees"

    It preheats while you are mixing the cake or what ever you are making.

    Actually to preheat the fastest put the oven on Broil. 

    If you preheat on convection most ovens automatically lower the temperature by 25 degrees.  Preheat on Broil then you can bake with the Convection setting.

    If you happen to have a convection oven you can turn it on convection to help heat up the metal inside faster and when you reach the temperature you can go about with normal baking.

    Most ovens on convection use a lower temperature - moving air around the oven isn't going to make it heat the air faster.

    Unless there is something wrong with your oven, it shouldn’t take it long to pre-heat.  Does your oven not work well or something?
