    The ecliptic is not an extension of the Earth's equator.  If it were, there would be no seasons.

    Not sure what "model" you are writing about, so can only tell that ecliptic is not an extension of Earth's equator. Correct statement should be "The ecliptic represents the path of the sun throughout the year."  It is named after solar eclipses.
