Why do old people need hip replacement or have issues with their hips?

Not all old people, possibly those that have lived rigorously throughout their life, or those that unfortunately are not genetically comprised as those that don't need it.

The hip is a ball and socket. Basically with old people it gets worn out

Sometimes the complex geometry of the hip bone fails and breaks without extra stress or bone density loss. It's easer to have a replacement hip joint placed than to have a fragile bone heal that will never be as strong as the metal hip replacement.

POst in "Health " please. As you age your cartilage disappears so you have bone on bone in joints - big time pain.

We live longer then our parts can hold up. All mechanical devises eventually wear and need replacement. The type of life one has lead as well as genetics play a role in that wear rate.

I know my hip hurts when I gain too much weight. so if you are obese and don't lose weight, you'll need hip replacement at some point in the future.
