Do I need full knee replacement surgery?

For the past 10 years I've been running 7 miles per day without any pain. But recently my right knee starts hurting after a mile. The pain runs from my knee to my hip. Hurts so much I have to drag my leg the rest of the way. It doesn't hurt as long as I don't run.

So does this sound like I need knee replacement?

It sounds as if you need to stop running and see a doctor. From those symptoms you do not need a new knee. That sounds like muscle or ligament pain which is not serious.

When my knees were replaced the pain was constant and they kept giving out.

    You need an X-ray.

Not likely. It sounds like sciatica. Sorry.

Try naproxen or ibuprofen.   Both fight inflammation.   See your doctor.

I would assume there is an injury that needs to be treated. Go see your doctor and get it looked at.

    Not likely.

But you should get it checked out just so  you know what is causing it and what to do to help it heal.

That would be impossible to know, without any diagnostic testing (CT, MRI).

Why not go to and ask an orthopedist?
