Am I able to put fruit trees within my property setback?

Hi, I'm about to begin placing fruit trees on my property to make it look nicer/cleaner but am uncertain if I'm able to place any kind of landscaping within my property setbacks along the fence line. The setbacks for the area I live in California are 20ft front, 5ft sides, and 10ft rear.

You would be best to consult your local government, or the HOA, or whoever it is that decides on the setback rules/laws. You didn't say what municipality or area you're in, so we can't do it for you and these things can vary even within a city.

Only you know/are responsible for the covenants to your property.  You can get a pretty good idea of what they are by driving around and looking at your neighbors' property.
