Is an annual salary of 1 million dollars a lot in the United States?

It's slightly more than minimum wage.

Yes, you could comfortably live on it.

Context would be helpful here. Presumably the money would be in exchange for a service of some kind. What is the job?
I recall a Major League Baseball player who complained that he was "raped" by his team when they offered him many times that amount.
My own talents are not in such high demand (which helps explain my many appearances here), but I can think of a lot of things I would not do for a million dollars a year.

It's 17 times the median household income, so, yes, it'd be considered a lot. 50% of the households in the USA make less than about $59,000 per year, and 1% of the households earn more than 500,000 per year. This would put you in the lower bracket of the upper 1%.

Yes, you could have a swimming pool with a sea turtle and ten fruit trees.
