Who takes over child support payments when the person paying dies penniless with no assets?

No one. If the non custodial parent worked, then the child may be eligivle for survivors benefits thru social security.. But child support comes to an end

No one. The non-custodial parent is responsible for helping support their child. Their next of kin are not responsible for supporting a child that is not theirs.

No one does. The child might get some social security survivor benefit, but no one else pays child support.

Assuming you are a single parent then supporting the child will be up to you.

Social Security kicks in with benefits available to minor children until they reach the age of 18.
- martinLv 72 months ago
Unfortunately, that means the support will end. However, you can apply for benefits from your state, local, and federal government due to such bad luck.

Well, a minor child is eligible for Social Security payments after a parent dies.
However, the deceased person's relatives have no responsibilities. They are not required to make any payments.
