Can/should you wax black plastic car door pillars?

I have a Mini, and the black plastic door pillars at the front and back are covered in little scratches I'd like to polish out. But should I be applying a wax or sealant afterwards? And if so, what type?

Update:

@regerugged: it doesn't need restored though, its not matte or textured trim, it's solid shiny black plastic.

You don't need to wax. Use Mother's "Back to Black" treatment. It covers black and has some shine to it.

Just don't look at those scratches and they will magically disappear.
