Why is cardboard recycled?

It’s only paper, right? It’s not glass or plastic or aluminum which lasts 1,000,000 years

Cardboard is a good source of cellulose so it's easy to recycle it.

At my old company most of our rubbish was 80% cardboard and about 1 giant refuse bin liner.

So that we use less trees, that's why. Yes, trees are renewable resource but they don't grow to a usable height overnight.

Cardboard - like any paper product - is recycled in order to reduce the amount of "virgin pulp" used in the paper making process.  Pulp which would otherwise come from trees.
