With quantum computing on the horizon, can traditional encryption still work simply by increasing the number of bits?

For instance, AES is 256 bit, and adding a bit doubles the difficulty by doubling the number of possible solutions.

So increasing 256 bit to 512 bits would make it 1.158e+77 times more difficult. Too much for even a Quantum computer to guess?

    sort of. but you also need to factor in a computer's ability to process the encryption.

    also, once we better understand how QC works, there may be a NEW type of encryption for it...
