    You always gain weight when taking medication. The weight you gain is usually equal to the weight of the pill itself.

    Usually no, but there are a few that can cause weight gain.

    Some can cause weight LOSS.

    Yes. Certain medications can do that. Especially steroids like prednisone,

    if taken every day, and also certain psychiatric drugs can really do that.

    Prednisone & other steroids are know to cause weight gain.

      Joe:   I'm currently taking Prednisone & steroids for pneumonia. I hope Prednisone DOES make me gain weight. I dropped 20 pounds (which I could ill afford to lose) with pneumonia.

    The short answer is yes, extremely. There's a number of them where I've seen people blow up by 100+ lbs. The mechanism by which the various culprits do so varies.

      One of the most extreme cases I've seen was a healthy, happy young man struck down into a vegetable by a genetic disorder. He gained well over 100lbs compounded by his immobility. But to stave off a painful death, obesity by the meds and lifestyle was worth the compromise.
