It is believed the COVID-19 virus originally infected a bat that infected a pangolin and then infected a human in a "wet market" in Wuhan, China.

The virus was first discovered in chickens at a chicken farm in North Dakota in 1931. From there it spread to bats and numerous other animals.

First reported human case was in 1961.

Either a pangolin or a bat, via eating.
