What does the 1971 song That's The Way I've Always Heard It Should Be by Carly Simon mean?

I believe this was also her first hit. Kinda sounds like a song from the 1960s.

It's about how young women are expected to get married and settle down. In the song Carly's hesitant to marry her lover because she feels their marriage will be unhappy but she agrees to anyway because it's what she's "supposed" to do.
