2 89/100 = [(2*100) + 89]/100 = 289/100 = 2.89

Look at a place value chart or table. To the left of the decimal point are whole numbers. And to the right of the decimal point are fractional numbers. Then write your numbers in the correct place. And you'd write it the way you say. And would have just one number in each place. For instance, twelve ten-thousandths would have the 1 in the thousandths place and the 2 in the ten-thousandths place.Source(s): I've taught math and many other subjects.
