The universe already explained?
I was watching some videos with Lawrence Krauss explaining how quantum laws are what made the universe out of 'nothing'. But if that is the case, doesn't that mean we now have answered the greatest question of how it all began? Doesn't that pretty much explain the universe right there in a nutshell?

For something in the unreachable far future time and unreachable vast scale, we intrinsically unable to get the direct experience produced direct factual evidence to prove this world will last for ever.
But that does not mean we cannot scientifically prove that.
That is because, according to natural law and logic, we know: if you can conduct a logical (rational) inference based on a proven know knowledge (which always based on a direct experience produced direct factual evidence in its origin when you trace the chain of knowledge upwards), this inferenced knowledge can be deemed as a new indirect evidence which became the new known knowledge.
Therefore, we can base on a proven know knowledge to conduct a rational inference to get the indirect evidence to prove this world will last for ever:
1. As a natural law, we know matter cannot be created or destroyed.
We also know in this world there is no other substance but only mass, which is the only substance in the world.
Then from the above, we can logically inference out mass cannot be created or destroyed.
And based on the natural law that the total energy is constant in the world, we can logically inference out energy cannot be created or destroyed.
Due to the definition of energy: energy is the existence state of mass, we also know by logical inference that the total existence state of mass never change.
And due to the definition of matter: matter is the abstract term for mass with regard to all its existence states.
2. How do you know space and time not change?
The only substance in this world is mass. The intrinsic quantity and quality of mass never change, but the existence states always change into each other. Therefore, in this world, nothing can change but the existence states of mass.
Space and time are non-matter existences which is not mass existence (not substance existence). Due to only substance can have existence states, therefore space and time do not have existence states, due to only existence states can change, therefore space and time cannot change. Due to interaction is caused by the existence states of substance, therefore space and time cannot have interaction with each other or with mass existence.
Therefore Space and time are absolutely independent existences that intrinsically cannot have any change, interaction with each other or with matter existence.
Therefore Space and time are startles, endless, boundless, changeless, non-interactable absolute existences which is the only absolute reference frames for matter existence.
Therefore, the inferenced indirect evidence is that: this world has no start, no ending, it always will be balanced in its existence state in its different existence states mutual transformation process.
As for how this process happen, I have explained in other answers/articles.

Pretty much so.
But there are still jobs involved with adding a few extra digits to the various constants and measurements of the universe.

Quantum Gravity laws might allow or require spacetime to appear from nothingness at random for no reason at all. But the question now is "Where do the laws of quantum Gravity come from? How could those laws exist within nothingness?"
- Adullah MLv 72 months ago
The problem is that if the universe were coming from something, the question is, where was that something coming form, if the universe originate from nothingness, then who would possess absolute power to command that nothingness to become something.

Only partly. It certainly deals with how you CAN have creation out of nothing. There is mathematics about it. It is certainly possible.
That still leaves the question of WHY the laws are as they are to make it possible. Why are the laws this and not something else? Is it accident or is this the only way things could be? What actually IS nothing? Clearly nothing is not entirely nothing, it still has quantum fields in it, so the work of theoretical physics isn't finished yet!
- cosmoLv 72 months ago
Krauss doesn't start with "NOTHING", he starts with the existence of quantum fields, which is "SOMETHING". Also, the physical laws that govern those fields.
- JonLv 62 months ago
No. Krauss was discussing a hypothesis of his. Only time will tell whether that hypothesis is borne out.

I say it was a Quark of Nature

Well, I have never watched any videos by Krauss, but no, that does not answer the question.
Any argument about the creation of the universe is based on one of two assumptions - either ‘something’ is eternal, or something is created from true ‘nothing’.
‘Something’ from true ‘nothing’ is impossible for obvious reasons, and without understanding how that could happen, is hardly an explanation.
That leaves the assumption that the universe came from ‘something’ that was eternal. That ‘something’ in quantum theory is the quantum vacuum, the closest thing to ‘nothing’ possible. The quantum vacuum fluctuates under the uncertainty principle allowing the possibility that fluctuations can lead to our universe.
So, if we stay with physics (and not go philosophical with a god) it implies that the laws of physics are some how built into the eternal quantum vacuum. Why those laws and not some other set of laws? Why does a quantum vacuum exist and not true ‘nothing’?
I’m certainly not intellectually satisfied.

We still don't have an explanation for why there are laws of physics in the first place.
