Are American taxpayers reluctant to see their tax money go to assist anyone who doesn’t work, is challenged or disabled, or a single parent?

    There you're talking about dyed in the wool Republicans. Even Republicans mostly approve of helping unemployed, especially disabled people. Mainly, that's a Democrat policy however.
