race is about genetics and usually the result of purpose-breeding

YOUR ethnicity is the language and culture YOU were raised in.

the 17th century pseudoscientific hypothesis that humans come in genetically distinct races was proven wrong around 1950. All humans alive are the same race. Genetically we are so similar that it is assumed we almost went extinct - were down to a few hundred or a few thousand individuals - a few dozen millennia ago

Humans come in three races:  Caucasian, *******, and Mongolian, also called Oriental.  Natives of the Americas, and Pacific Islanders are sub-races.  EVERYONE is in one of those, although some argue there are others (e.g., Congoid in Africa, and the Aboriginees of Australia).

However, with a race are collections of people called ethnic groups.  Consider Caucasians, which include people from India, Arabs, Europeans, etc. "French" is an ethnic group different from "Pakistani," even though both are the same race.
