    Apart from abrupt changes in the Earth's (local) environments -- we hardly have a genuinely continuous record of fossils to look at .

    Like we don't have a large group of fossils of the same creature from 100 million BC ,and another large set of fossils of the same creature ,in the same region, from 99 million years BC .

    Radiation.

    Unusual method of death--drowning, fire, trampling, landslide, volcano, asteroid.
