Is it possible for a family doctor to have to undergo a colonoscopy?

I was shadowing a surgeon and one of his patients was a family doctor who was in to get a colonoscopy.

Is it normal for a doctor to see another doctor like this, especially for a colonoscopy?

    Of course.

Doctors have medical issues just like anyone else.

He certainly is not going to do a colonoscopy on himself

Well, you don't expect the doctor to do his OWN colonoscopy, do you?

Yes. You need a doctor to perform a colonoscopy and you sure can't do it yourself.

What?! Why would you question its normalcy? Do you think, that doctors should give themselves colonoscopies?

You don't think the family doctor can perform his own colonoscopy, do you?

Of course it's normal. Doctors need to see other doctors, dentists need to see other dentists.

I'm a bit confused as to why you would question this situation.

It's not something you are going to do on yourself.
