Because people are getting more stupid and can't no longer do simple things.

Some losers are always looking for a way to eliminate "people" and replace them with a robot of some sort. Like, "Hey ya'll! Watch this!" Or' "Look what I can do!"

    People are JUST THAT DUMB?

Some sleep while they drive - others have breakfast while they drive - others are putting on makeup while they drive - some are doing last nights homework while they drive - and some play with their Willie while they drive & other reasons.  Or drinking or getting high. You chose the poison you do.  You know you have done it.

Besides the cars should be able to talk to each other to avoid crashes and traffic tie ups.  We are YEARS from there.

Anyone...in any condition...drivers license or not...could get transportation anywhere and everywhere. Think about that.

Your kid...missed the bus for school. POOF...insta ride to school. Kid is SICK in school...POOF insta ride to the doctor's office or HOME.

Kid - DRUNK OFF HIS BUTT because he is an idiot...POOF...insta ride home safe and sound at 3:00am in the morning...NOBODY DEAD, driving DRUNK.

Grandma...sick...needs to go to doctors office...can't SEE well...no license...POOF insta ride to doctors office...then to store afterwards to pick up medicine.

    WHATEVER you want for ANYONE.

Humans leave a lot to be desired when it comes to driving vehicles. They don't improve.

Self-driving car would release people from the task of driving and making driving a more pleasurable experience.

A "self-driving" car is 100% more likely to be in an accident than is a car that has a driver controlling it at all times. When your "self-driving" car decides to ignore the stop sign on the corner because the road ahead is clear & you get T-boned by a motorist on a cross-street, don't blame me.

There is no need, we've had them for years. They're called taxis, trains, subways, buses. The whole self driving car thing is a joke and a complete waste of money.

Machines can react faster than humans.

They also do not get distracted. How accidents are caused by distracted drivers. Haven’t you ever taken your eyes off the road while changing radio stations or inputting a destination on your phone or reading texts. Bro-in-law reads and writes email while driving.

They don’t fall asleep. Lots of accidents are caused by drowsy drivers.

They can see better assuming the programmers can build an echolocation that’s as good as bats. Where I live, when the temperature is just right and there’s a little bit of rain, fog can get pretty heavy. This is where echolocation comes in handy. It can tell me what’s ahead.
