I sent a package to Japan back in February 2020 and its been 3 months now and it has not arrived.?

I sent a package to japan about 3 months ago. It last updated February 9th on the tracker but it has not moved since. Every time I have called the post office they have said "It might take some time" or "there is nothing we can do about it since is outside US borders". Is it because of the coronavirus pandemic? are certain countries not sending or accepting packages internationally at this time?

If the package is already in Japan, then it is up to the Japanese postal service to delivery the item. The US postal services does not control every postal service around the world.

Because of the pandemic, the airlines have curtailed flights and since postal services buy cargo space aboard airlines to transport international AIRMAIL, there is simply not enough flights to carry all the air mail that were sent. This does NOT affect surface mail which uses ships to carry mail; they have not been restricted although they will be even slower than usual depending on how many dockworkers are available to load and off load cargoes.

Since your package obviously arrived in Japan, it could be there were some irregularities with what you sent and Japanese Customer have confiscated the package. Or it may simply be lost.

If you have a tracking number, you could try to e-mail the Japanese post office. Why it has not been delivered is just impossible to say and not worth speculating on. There has been some delay or suspension of mail service due to the pandemic, but the US is not listed as one of those nations.

If the address is wrong and it is impossible to deliver, it will be returned to you, but sent by sea mail, which can take 4-8 weeks.

Post is going as before - but because of coronavirus, most things have significantly slowed down.
