What’s the point in blocking someone?

The person can still answer my questions by commenting under other answers.

I block anyone with even remotely right wing views because the right is wrong.

The only point is that it makes it a little bit harder for them to bother you.

But honestly, blocking is just a waste of time. By far the more effective way to deal with people you don't want to know is to ignore them. Don't read their posts, don't read their answers to you, and if you DO read them don't ever respond or react in ANY way.

Behave as if their posts were invisible. And after a while they'll get bored and move on to another victim.

its to stop them from abuseing you directly they can still comment in other peoples replys and spread lies about you and your questions,

and in anon they can still stalk you if your typing is obvious and they may target your family as well

Virtually none at all.   It's suppose to make it harder for them to stalk you,  but any serious stalker worth their salt  has MULTIPLE accounts.

You block one, they have 29 more to attack you with.

and as you pointed out,   they can still comment under anyone else's answer.

It just means they can't answer your questions directly,  but oh, they can still stalk the crap out of you.

The point is they can't answer in the Answer area (so they can't effectively post an answer with the blocked account) and they can't comment on your answers to other user's questions. It doesn't matter what they post as a comment under someone else's answer, as that's between them and the user under whose answer they post (many people don't even bother to read comments posted under other user's answers).

However, if you feel that comment ability makes blocking pointless, then feel free not to block any accounts. It's not a requirement and is completely up to each user to block another user or not.

Exactly, that's why I don't block anyone at all these days, but the rules should not allow anyone to have an account who would bother other users.

    That's not answering. That's commenting.
