Why do fan blades get stuck in electronic fans?

I've bought several nice fans. The blades always, eventually, act sticky and then stop turning all together. What is this about?

Update:

And, can I do anything about it?

The oil in the motor bushings dries out.

It needs to be taken apart, cleaned, and relubricated.

If you let it go unattended for too long, the motor can overheat

due to not turning, and the thermal fuse will burn open.

That can be remedied, but the job isn't something

    the average person should undertake,

and professional repair could cost more than a new fan.

I've serviced a good number of motors in fans and other appliances.

The best oil for the purpose is Supco MO98,

available in a "zoom spout" bottle.

Because the dirt and dust on fan blades causing this trouble, just clean them monthly as soon as you spot the dirt is built up on fan.

Dust and other particulate matter gets into the mechanism. You need to clean it out every now and then.
