what is so "historic" about launching another rocket from cape canaveral?

why the big fuss and all the news coverage? it's just another rocket taking off like thousands before. it's not even a new rocket. just spacex's old falcon rocket with another dragon capsule like so many before. so what if astronauts are on board? astronauts have been flying to space for sixty years. ho-hum.

Nothing. It's what passes for modern 'reporting'.

It's the first step in privately run missions running astronauts to the space station AND the first manned missions since the cancelling of the Space Shuttle. America is back in the manned space biz.

It's historic because (1) it's the first time in nearly 10 years people have been launched from the Cape and (2) this will be only the ninth vehicle in history to take people into space.

It’s been 10 years since a rocket launched from the US carrying people into space . Plus it’s a private company launching the rocket . A new era of space exploration being that of private enterprise rather than tax payer dollars .
