What should I do as a white person to be an ally to the black community?

I want to help, but I don’t feel as though it is my place to speak up about others experiences of the pain of oppression. I want to help create change and support movements towards equality without overstepping or not doing enough. What should I do? I came to yahoo answers because I feel as though other people share my confusion and my yearn to help. Hopefully this can help them and myself support movements and create the changes that are so desperately needed in our country.

You can't help.  This is a cultural problem that they need to deal with themselves.  Throwing more money at it certainly won't help.
