y = 3x
This is in slope-intercept form of y = mx + b. So we know that the slope is 3 and the y-intercept is 0 (in other words, it goes through the origin, as we can see).
Any parallel line will have the same slope (m = 3), but must have a different y-intercept (b ≠ 0).
So we can immediately pick the answer with the same slope and not have to calculate the exact y-intercept.
Answer:B. y = 3x - 3√2
If they had multiple answers with the same slope, you'd have to figure out the value of b that would give a distance of 3 between the lines. You'd get two possible answers.
b = ± 3√2
But then noticing that the line is *below* the first line through the origin, you'd know that it had to be -3√2.
