In addition to the other fine answers, learn about the dangers of the area and understand your abilities. Landscape photography can take you to amazing places where danger lurks. Dangers can be minimized if you have skills to deal with the outdoors.

Bears and other animals that may consider you food, type of terrain (loose rocks, cliffs, rivers, ...), weather, insects that hurt, venomous snakes, when the sun sets/rises, having two headlamps (one is backup) if shooting near sunset, appropriate clothing & footwear, emergency gear (first aid kit, sat phone, bear spray, firearm,  ...), and letting people know where you are going and/or having a partner are things I consider when shooting landscape. Sometimes it's a stroll in the park, other times you need to think through the safety aspects of what you are doing.

How to compose would be a good thing.

    Knowing about lighting, is critical.

Knowing where the really great/epic landscapes are located and the best times of the year to photograph them.
