What did sir Isaac Newton do the man who discovered gravity he must have done more than have a apple fall on his head?

Gravity have been around since the dawn on time I mean someone must have dropped something or fallen before he was boring. The man must have discovered more and down alot more than have a apple fall in his head

    Before NEWTON, it was assumed that GRAVITY was a force that only the EARTH possessed---as everything seemed to fall towards it.   NEWTON was the conceiver of UNIVERSAL GRAVITATION---stating that ALL MASS had GRAVITY-------And figured out the math, thus demonstrating That the gravity  of the SUN  is what kept the planets in place in their orbits, just as the EARTH attracted the moon, keeping it in orbit too.---It also explained the motions of comets, etc, and even smaller things like trajectories of cannon balls , etc.   ----Newton seemed to have "Cracked"  the answers to nearly "Everything" known about astronomy in his time------No wonder he became so renown

    Newton didn't discover gravity. He did assign gravity as the force in the trajectories of falling bodies, rotating bodies and other such situations. He also derived the equations that predict and describe these trajectories. He also invented the calculus, although Libnez claimed that he did it first. Anyway he was a great genius whose many accomplishments you can find by Googling his name.

    The apple story is apocryphal.

    Newton formulated the Universal Law of Gravitation. He showed that the same gravitational force that makes apples - and everything else - fall to the ground is the same force which keeps planets in orbit. He also showed how Kepler's Laws could be derived from his Law of Gravitation and how the tides work.

    Besides gravity Newton also developed the laws of motion, was a co-inventor of Calculus, invented the reflecting telescope, discovered the binomial theorem and advanced understanding of light.

    He didn't discover gravity at all.  He already knew that things needed a force to move in a circle.  And he knew that planets and the moon move in circles around the earth.  He was pondering the problem "what force could possibly keep these planets in a circle".  Watching the apple drop he realized that it MIGHT be gravity.

    Using Kepler's Laws.  R^3 is proportional to T^2  ie k / R^3 =  w^2

    and using F = m w^2 R  = m k  R / R^3 = km / R^2

    Now being incisive he realized that if it depended on the mass of one it MUST depend on the mass of the other.  ie k = GM

    so F = GMm/ r^2 

    Now IF this could be verified THEN it could mean that gravity MIGHT be the force that held the planets in orbit.

    So at this stage is was a logical theory but untested.

    Cavendish did the testing of the formula later and found a value for G.

    I have done Cavendish experiment myself with simple equipment.  It isn't as easy as you might think.

    The thing that made Newton a genius is that he could see the same things as you and I could see.  Things that everyone else had also seen yet from that realize what it meant.  And go further.

    The other thing that I should also point out is that, unlike a modern student, he was smart enough to realize that he could never know enough.  That the complexities of the world would always be entirely out of his reach.

    THAT is the measure of a truly intelligent person.

    Many people consider Newton the greatest genius of all time, even above Einstein. Newton discovered the 3 laws of motion that we still use now. He didn't just notice that gravity makes things fall. He discovered the law of gravity that describes how they accelerate as they fall. 

    F = GMm/r^2He realized that the moon and planets obey the same law of gravity as things on Earth do. He invented calculus so he could use it to do his orbital calculations. He calculated orbits of the moon and planets and predicted when a comet would return. He predicted solar and lunar eclipses. He used his laws to explain Kepler's laws of planetary motion. 

    He discovered everything that scientists use today to do mechanics, dynamics, astronomy, and classical physics.

    Obviously, he did not discover gravity. He discovered the equation that explains how gravity operates, and showed that the same equation works for stuff on Earth and for the planets going around the Sun. Before Newton, the main theory was "God did it", without any other connection between things falling on Earth, and planets going around the Sun.

    Sir Isaac Newton did not invent nor discover it, He figured out how it works and the properties of gravity and Inertia and he wrote the paper detailing the descriptions to the Royal Society who voted on his dissertation.

    1: If the apple story has any basis in fact, it was something he saw, not something that landed on him.

    2: He didn't "discover gravity."  He made the conceptual leap from things falling on Earth to things being held in orbit around it.

    The theory he developed as a result was "Universal" gravitation.

    I’m not doing your googling for you. He was a fellow at Cambridge. An author mathematician etc etc.
