Why does Japan have 8 million (countless, innumerable, infinite) kinds of gods and monsters?

Update:

I have read articles from folklorists about Japan and they say "By official count Japan is haunted by eight million gods and monsters, although in Japanese “eight million” is a euphemism for “countless, innumerable, infinite”

But they never seem to know why?

That's the Shinto religion.  Does it really matter?

In Japanese, it's Kami no Michi that's Shen Tao in Chinese. Both mean way of the gods or gods' way!

older religions like Shinto had many gods and deities. That religion is a couple thousands years old and deals with ancestors.

By the time you get to the 21st century most stories have been watered down or forgotten.

Most Japanese people no combine Kami no Michi (aka Shinto from Chinese for it) and Buddhism. Amaterasu is the supreme deity. She is the Sun Goddess. The creators were her parents Izanami and Izanagi.

You say that as if folklorists are some kind of scientific discipline.
