Both are good for the brain. The brain runs mostly on glucose. It gets the glucose from food eaten and metabolized.  Which means any food that is not outright damaging, is good for the brain. Foods which contain DHA, an omega-3 fatty acid are even BETTER for the brain and have been shown to help the brain remember, learn and process information. Foods that are high in DHA are walnuts, beets, blueberries, and salmon--which, you will notice, is not vegetarian. It's not the overall diet--it's the inclusion of foods that are fresh, non processed and healthy--no matter if they are part of a vegetarian or non-veg regime.

There is no food that is specifically “good” for the brain. For good general health (including the brain) you need to follow a varied, balanced, nutritious diet.

Research shows that the best brain foods are the same ones that protect your heart and blood vessels, including the following: Green, leafy vegetables. Leafy greens such as kale, spinach, collards, and broccoli are rich in brain-healthy nutrients like vitamin K, lutein, folate, and beta carotene.

    These are, of course, vegetarian.
