Can you have appendicitis for years and not know it?

    You should see a doctor while you are having symptoms.  Your doctor could help determine the cause.

    not for years, the doc that took mine said i must have had it 2 or 3 times before i actually had it so bad that i went to the emergency room...

    No  it is an  acute  infection in your  appendix, before  surgery was invented  to  treat the problem it  was  usually    fatal as  the  appendix  would  cause  you  to  develop  Septicaemia.

    You can get appendicitis and recover from it, but usually it becomes more severe and then you need surgery to remove your appendix. If you have recurring abdominal pain that is not severe enough to see a doctor, then you probably have something else going on.

    NO!  Unless a doctor is found to remove it; Death is what comes!
