It is an organ that stores gall or bile.

Bile is produced by the liver and aids in digesting fat.

The gall bladder sometimes developes a sediment that can vary from sludge to stones. This is crystalised bile. If these stones block the bile ductthey can cause a painful condition referred to as a gall bladder attack.

If these are frequent enough and bad enough, the gall bladder is generally removed.

You still produce bile and can still digest fat after gall bladder surgery, just not as efficiently.
