Not common at all, but certainly not unheard of. Some hospitals have better statistics than others, so look into your hospital/your practioner.
It also depends on other things such as your genetic risk factors, your overall health, whether is a c-section or a vagina delivery, and your race. Minority women have always been more likely to have adverse outcomes. But again, death is not a common thing.Source(s): Labor and Delivery nurse
