Class antagonism is exactly what it sounds like, the hostility (antagonism) between classes. Marx believed in the proletariat (working class) and bourgeoisie (ruling class) and the inequality between them. Think of this as wealthy and poor. The ideal communism would have everything be divided equally removing this distinction, thereby making no one rich and no one poor so there would in theory be no conflict about wealth inequality.

As far as alternatives to the struggle of the poor against the rich I think you would need a system that allows as much fluidity between the classes as well as a guarantee that all individuals start with the same provisions and opportunities.
