Was Patty Hearst, of the Hearst publishing family, brainwashed back in the day?

    Her case is where the term 'Stockholm syndrome' first came into common usage.  The hostage-taking event that gave it its name took place only the year before Hearst was abducted and the event was not widely known. When she and the rest of the SLA were caught a year later, her use of Stockholm Syndrome as a defense, claiming she was brainwashed, didn't work for her.  But there is some element of brainwashing involved.
