No, it's when subordinates rebel against their boss.

The two words are etymologically unrelated.

    Mutiny:

mid 16th century: from obsolete mutine ‘rebellion’, from French mutin ‘mutineer’, based on Latin movere ‘to move’.

    Mutate/Mutation:

late Middle English: from Latin mutatio(n- ), from mutare ‘to change’.

While they both involve a movement or change, a mutiny is a confrontational change while a mutation is an adaptive change.

It would be incorrect to say that a mutiny is when people mutate.
