This is a message from Japan. I am a specialist in molecular biology and immunology. The situation abroad is unknown. Are there any survivors? We are told that there are 50,000 new cases of infection in the United States every day. Are those people asymptomatic? How bad is it?

For East Asia, the National Institute of Infectious Diseases in Japan has cultured and distributed them. We have those resources, but they do not take into account the mutants. It doesn't take into account protein modification. In other words, no one knows exactly what it is.
Most countries, including Japan, do very little PCR testing, either. No antibody or antigen testing has been done. We have no money. We believe the same is true for Southeast Asia, China, Russia, etc., and we do very little testing. I thought the same was true for the US. In other words, we believe the true number of people infected is thousands of times higher than what has been published. Is that correct?

Diagnostic testing for the novel Coronavirus 2019-nCoV is undertaken with 2 main approaches: genome sequencing and real-time reverse transcriptase PCR. Sequencing was used primarily in the early days of the outbreak for initial identification of this novel virus and is largely a tool of viral discovery.
