Does Tropical Asia include the Indian Subcontinent?
So, I’ve read that Patchouli (Pogostemon Cablin) is native to Tropical Asia and was wondering if that would include India, Nepal, Bangladesh, etc. And, if so, would this also mean that Patchouli is native to India?
While there is Indian/Java Patchouli (Pogostemon Heyneanus) native to India, I was wondering if Pogostemon Cablin would also be native to India. I’ve also read that Cablin and Heyneanus are sometimes synonyms.
Thanks in advance!

It is hard to say. P. Cablin is indigenous to the Philippines. A closely related species, P. heyneanus is native to India. P. Cablin was brought into India in 1834, by the British, from Malaysia. The plant can now be found wild (escaped from cultivation) in all countries from Philippines to India. Also in southern China.
