Should I change my piercing at home?

I got my naval pierced January 25th or so and it’s almost six months and I have a tiny infection. I got advice from a piercer to upgrade the piercing and use a salt wash. What I’m scared for is that it’s gonna close. I’m not sure if it’s true or not but my piercing will only be out for a couple seconds before the new one goes in. I just don’t want it to start closing when I take it out

If the piercing is swollen/red/itchy I’d suggest waiting however long it takes for the infection to calm down- if not, go for it! The piercing won’t close in a matter of seconds, it would probably take a day or two for it to fully close. Honestly just depends how bad you think the infection is.
