If tobacco is so dangerous, why isn't the same effort put into eliminating its use as is put into trying to force people to wear useless ?

masks?  How does me wearing a mask protect you?  You smoking puts garbage in the air for everyone else to breathe.  How about we, at least, prohibit smoking within six feet, or some other randomly picked distance, of other people?

As others have stated, the tobacco industry is highly profitable. Add in bills for hospitalizations due to lung cancer, liver failure, stomach cancer, etc. and the benefit to society outweighs the risk.

Many places have all but banned smoking in public spaces. But every state in the union reaps the reward of a huge "sin tax" on this product. Hence the reason it remains legal. Same with alcohol, if you ever wondered.
