Why is there crticism of 'political correctness' ? Surely, the term itself implies that it is the 'right' thing to do?

It's a term that implies that you must be polite as not offend any left leaning soul by expressing  a point of view contrary to socialist/communist/racist ideology....you're also to politely nod your head to single approval when they express theirs via bullhorn....not doing so would hurt their feelings.

Anything that is "politically correct" today may well be banned tomorrow by the same people.  It is impossible to determine beforehand what is or is not going to be "politically correct".  Political correctness is a sign of moral weakness.

Not when you are shamed to be PC.

Political  correctness  is just another way of saying good manners which is something most conservatives  lack

Terms like "correctness" are subjective. To one person being "correct" might mean getting an education, getting a job and paying taxes. To another it might mean anything they interpret as causing hurt feelings demands that someone else lose their livelihood.

Political correctness is a form of censorship and bullying.  If you can control what people say you can control what they think and it is therefore a means of controlling people's behavior.

Ah but here's the rub.  What is "correct" to a liberal might seem like a huge error to a conservative.  And vice versa.

EX:  Liberal...I support abortions for medical reasons and rape victims.  Conservative...I don't support abortions for any reason.  Both positions are PC according to the political leaning expressing them.

No, you are failing to analyze the term.  It's not the "correct" thing to do, it is the "politically correct" thing to do.  Most of us are not politicians and don't give a damn about what is politically correct.
