Is there a term for this type of selective downplaying/overemphasizing?
If a boss wants to downplay something, for example, the amount of time needed to do something, they will say, “Just do X task, it only took, what, 30 minutes last time?” - but it took 2 hours.
Or if they want to overemphasize something you are asking for, they will say, “I don’t know if we can approve 100 extra X, but I’ll see what I can do.” - but you only asked for 60 X.

Both are examples of passive aggressive behavior.
