how knows "meet a note" in the below sentence.?

Where you think I got twenty dollars? I gotta meet a note on your trumpet tomorrow. I gotta pay that man for his building.

    In this context, it means the due date or when payment is required.

    a note is a debt, a piece of paper saying you owe.  An IOU was a form of a note.  It isn't all that common in modern North American English to sue the term "Note" to mean debt or loan or credit, but that is how debts were recorded in the past, via a "Note", a written document.  Still are done that way, but we don't call them notes because they are generally too long to fit that idea.  they are contracts now.

    the meaning is "payment, bill".

    For example: "I have to pay the house note." means "I have to pay the monthly mortgage."
