Do I need to pay damages?

my young daughter has accidentally broken a well cover for a basement window. We have replaced the cover and the owner himself made sure there is nothing wrong. A few weeks later they complained about water damages and flooding. Do I need to pay the damages?

(They keep asking us to pay $8000 without letting us knowing the real cost of damaged items)

They'll need to prove that the costs incurred were as a direct result of the broken window, and you're entitled to a full detailed receipt of all charges before you pay.

That's what homeowner's insurance is for. Don't pay them.

If the homeowner paid someone to fix it then the repair company assumed liability for further issues caused.

You need to have an engineer or home inspector look at it to determine if that damage is caused by the broken cover. It may or may not be. If it is, then your homeowner's insurance should cover it.  Ask for a detailed accounting and an insurance adjuster's list or inspection report before paying anything. They owe you that--and your insurance will not cover it unless they provide it. You can probably let the insurance company fight it out for you--but make sure you go over each and every single amount charged if you do before signing any releases.

If the damage occurred after your daughter broke the well cover but before it was replaced, yes, you are liable for the water damage & flooding remediation.

You are entitled to the receipts.

You might owe it, unless you are insured.

Since your daughter broke the cover, you do have to pay for associated damages.  They have to prove, with receipts, what the damages are.
