What is Las Vegas like?
Briefly, and generally? My friend suggested we take a trip. What's it like? Is it cold? Is it more city or country?
"seriously!?" Uh yea...is it that hard for you to believe that somebody isn't obsessed with Las Vegas facts and information?

"The Strip" which is what you really mean as a newbie. It's listed as 4.2 miles. The main part seems more like a mile or two. It's a long, straight strip of a wide street lined by casinos, all covered with neon lights. There is neon and other lights everywhere. Casino after casino, one after the other. Every once in a while there is some other shops or something, but it is at least 80% casinos. The sidewalks are full - when the weather is nice - of mostly middle American tourists. Tourists as in the sort of folks who like cruise ships. And others, it is an international crowd. To the point where it can be difficult to get down the sidewalks, at times. On some level it's real exciting. Lots of people think so. If you aren't into casinos it gets pretty old. The food is OK but mostly overrated by folks who don't know much about food. The mediocre shows are cheap if not free, the really good shows are definitely not cheap, One thing is certain is that it is an adventure. The gambling experience, inside the casinos, is not for the faint of heart. It's fun, it's also pretty serious.

Vegas is literally the hottest place on the planet. Its all city baby. Keep your eyes off the pavement though, you might see a naked lady. Also lots of homeless people on the overpasses. Most of the gambling floors smell heavily of weed. Unless your a real bummer this won't bother you. also its only really cool if you are 21 and its midnight.

It's very hot at this time of year and also a high risk area for Covid-19. Las Vegas is city but it's desert outside the city.

Vegas is a CITY and it's in the desert. It is very hot for a good bit of the year, comfortable in the winter, snows occasionally, etc.
It is known for its casinos and everything that goes along with them - shows, museums, attractions, etc.
Now is not really the best time to visit Vegas. The casinos are open, but not not much else is, and there are high COVID numbers there.
