Get a three wheeler, you can have best of both worlds. Ride tail in a poker run.

Basic trans, an older Jap car is far more economical. Hold more, like a dog or GF. Get a good used one for $1500-$3K.Tires cost (used) about $38 and last 20-50K. Anyone can repair an old Toyota or Chevy. My Toyota runs quiet and smooth, once got 50 MPG.AC and a heater plus stereo/CD player and 2m/ 70 cM radio..
Bikes often require a specialized dealer: $140/Hr. Tires are $70-$250 Each, often don't last long. A good, used Harley is $6k-$24k. My Honda 650 barely got 52 MPG, my Harley once got 48.My Honda I couldn't ride over an hour on without a break.AC only works when Moving. No heater, frostbite. My radio is an HT.
As far as Safety; MC riders are far more defensive. The % of MC accidents are far, far less than car accidents--we know that just about any accident with car v. bike; the biker gets injured. It really doesn't matter if a semi crosses the line and you are hit in a Camry rather than riding a Ninja. Just As Dead.
But If you wanna go on a Poker Run;a MC is a requirement...I have both; the cage is great for hauling firewood and my SO and dog.. The Harley; poker runs, rallies; seeing the country the Right way. Neither is a :"substitute" for the other; like a helicopter and a fixed wing; both have an advantage and disadvantage. My old Honda cost $300; rode her over 24K. This pitiful price does not make her a "luxury".

In the winter I am sure you would prefer the car. Also your chance of surviving a car accident is much higher than if you rode a motorbike.

Car drivers live longer than motorcycle riders. is RUBBISH I am nearly 90 and still riding motorcycles and I dont have any Broken Bones ever
Last crash my fault 1962 in Holland and that was with my car
I love my Motorcycles but not conducive to weekly shopping or when it is Raining
I use the Motorcycle most of the time but as I got older i hated the Cold weather

Car- can be used to go to work when it is raining, storming, and carry stuff like tools to job site. Bike is a luxury.(essentially a second vehicle) a weekend warrior.

Although I have ridden motorcycles for over 45 years, they are not a viable replacement for a car. Heat, cold, snow, rain can make riding a motorcycle miserable. Hauling groceries/laundry can also be a hassle.
